Living Abroad - the words I heard the most

At the beginning of our America-adventure, I didn’t have any American or foreign friends. So I used to hear some English words only at grocery stores. Most people use those words: excuse me, sorry and thank you. These words are not common in my country between the people who don’t know each other. Nobody in my country does have a communication with foreign people, even if it is to say just ‘excuse me’ or etc. And nobody wants to look at any other person’s face who wasn’t known before. Nobody wants to say hi to that person, too. But Americans are different people about this subject. Maybe they find rude for not saying hi to each other. No matter who this is. As you read earlier, one of the words that I heard mostly is ‘hi / hello’. These are good words. As far as I understand, they care about greetings.

Sooner rather than later, I started to have an English course at Adult Learning Center. There are many foreign students there. And most of them told that they didn’t hear these words such as excuse me, thank you, and etc in their country, too. Especially, some of them are European. But they also didn’t hear in Europe. Guys! Did you hear these words in your country? Are these words common to speak between the people, even if they don’t know each other?

Living Abroad - next door neighbor

A week later… We rented a single house. It was two stories- big and almost new-built house. It was also kinda smart-home. I really liked the house, and I began to think how I will move out from this amazing house when the time comes. We purchased a bedroom set for us, and a bedroom set for my son, and also a living room set. Afterwards we purchased some kitchen stuffs and houseware stuffs day by day. So, we could get settled in.

By the way, in America you do not have to buy any appliances like fridge, dishwasher machine and etc., curtains, carpets (you may need in some houses) , lamps and wardrobes ( there are so many storages at homes).  Therefore, it is easy to get settled in.

Anyway, at the first days I was trying to clean outside of the house. Then a woman stopped her car in front of our house and came to near me. She told me something. She tried to tell something to me. But I couldn’t understand her. I only understood a few words. But I couldn’t connect the words at that time. Because I was a new comer, and didn’t get used to speak English yet. Immediately, I was like ‘I’m not English.’ Then she asked me like ‘English?’ I called my husband then, and waited for him, and wanted him to speak that woman. What a shame! Then, I learned that she was our next door neighbor.

Living Abroad - environment

This city is so beautiful to live. The houses are generally very big, and there are a lot of single houses. They have one or two stories. There are also some townhouses, condos and a few apartments. Most houses have a big, gorgeous and well-kept yard. All of the houses are like in the forest. There are lots of tall trees around the houses. Actually, I think it's like people built houses in places without cutting trees. So these home-areas might already be a place without any tree. People must have been keeping the nature. The first thought of me about the USA-people was like this. During the time I lived there and still I’m thinking the same way. To live in the place with green trees, clean streets, gorgeous houses made me privileged myself.  This is the only amazing experience of me during my life.

I’ll tell the details of the life in USA later. Follow me.😀

Living Abroad - first grocery shopping

The next day after we arrived to the USA, we went to a very big grocery store. Actually, our friend took us to that store, and told us we would buy something we needed to cook meal, or to eat. But it was a huge store, and there were lots of products, and different brands. I looked at all of the aisles, and I was totally confused what I should have bought. Then, I only bought a pack of water, paid for them,  and left the grocery store. My first shopping experience was like that.

Living Abroad - first impression

At first I would like to  tell my first impression of the city where we began to live. We arrived there around 3.30 am. and it was a summer night. When I went outside of the airport, I felt humid and very hot weather, and I thought I would never breathe there. Immediately, we went to the place with an air conditioner. The weather forecast was the same for a few days. It was hard to breathe at every outside trip for me. Then, maybe I got used to breathe, or maybe not. I’m not sure. It was not a breathing problem, afterwards.

Living Abroad

I had an opportunity to live abroad for 3 years with my family. I had three amazing years in the USA. We were there, because of my husband’s work. My son also had an opportunity to study at an American school. He was not speaking English before we went to the USA. Actually he didn’t know anything about English at that time. Because he had just finished the first grade in Turkey, and learned how to write and read Turkish at the school. However, he succeeded to understand and speak English in the first year of the school in the USA. Then, he felt himself better. So he could communicate with his friends and teachers magnificently. We are proud of him very much.

I have a lot of things to write about this subject. But, it is enough for now. Follow me! 😀
